of Bibles, books & letters...
Because of the fact that I quite often don't get on the computer on Fridays (and actually, there are some weeks when I don't log on to it at all since my daughter is using it for school these days), I'm thinking I need to rename my "Friday Links" to something else. I've seen lots of bloggers use the label Laudable Links so I'm trying to come up with something similar that I can use on whatever day I manage to get on the computer and post. If I was more organized I suppose I could get up early and add a little everyday and schedule it to post on Friday morning, but even when I do get up extra early, the dogs demand my attention so . . . . =D Anyways, I may change the name to something like Commendable Links or Praiseworthy Links, but since some links are more Food for Thought (and even I don't agree with 100%, and some maybe not even 50%, perhaps something along the lines of "Thought-Provoking Links" would be appropriate. In the meantime, here are the links I've saved over the last week or two.

It turns out last Friday was "Letter Writing Day" and somehow I missed it (I also spent the day running errands and doing my "big" shopping trip instead of writing any letters). Maybe I can celebrate it belatedly and catch up on the last of my correspondence today. Fingers crossed that no surprise interruptions get in the way. Hope you all have a very Happy Labor Day. I came across two more blog posts about the Nashville Statement, and the concerns that other Christians have with it and since so many are jumping in the bandwagon and signing it simply because Pastor so-and-so did, I decided to share them today instead of waiting until next Friday.

Miscellaneous ♠ Frugal Living ♣ Bullet Journal

- Reading Out of Love for Others at Challies' blog ~ some good points and it reminds me a little of a booklet I read recently by Sinclair Ferguson
- How to Stay Engaged with Your Reader as They Grow at Brightly
- How I Read 313 Books In One Year ht MMD ~ I'm way too slow a reader to read that many books, but I'm sure I could increase my total if I incorporate some of her tips, although since I (try to) do my evening reading while my hubby is watching TV, I should probably use earplugs to help block out that distraction.
- More Than Slightly Christian Novels HT Stray Thoughts(?) and 6 Marks of Distinctively Christian Fiction ~ because some "Christian" books aren't well-written or Christian
Miscellaneous ♣ Frugal living
- Pizza Meatloaf ~ it sounds weird, but my family loved this meatloaf

- Let's Talk about Moralistic Therapeutic Deism at Adam4d ~ excellent summary of MTD
I put hearts next to my favorites and the full list is here
Non-fiction:
- Holiness by JC Ryle (started in 2015) ♥
- The Mystery of Providence by John Flavel (started in 2015) ♥
- Better Than the Beginning: Creation in Biblical Perspective by Richard Barcellos ♥
- What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast by Laura Vanderkam
- The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown
- Going Beyond the Five Points: Pursuing a More Comprehensive Reformation by by Rob Ventura (ed.), Richard Barcellos, Sam Waldron, Earl Blackburn, Robert Martin

- When Books Went to War: The Stories that Helped Us Win World War II by Molly Guptill Manning ♥
- Housewife Theologian: How the Gospel Interrupts the Ordinary
- by Aimee Byrd ♥
- Mary & Me: A Lasting Link Through Ink by Mary Potter Kenyon ~ I was given a copy of this book by the author and will be doing a give-away :D
- Openness Unhindered: Further Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert on Sexual Identity and Union with Christ by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield ♥
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman ♥
- The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood ♥
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt ~ great storytelling & writing but kind of depressing (and way too many
- F-bombs for me)
- The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan ♥
Books and Reading
- Read Aloud Dad ~ this site is still new to me, but I like what I've read there so far
- A book club for two, still going after 35 years — on the phone ~ love this =D
- Good Books from Louisa May Alcott at Plumfield and Paideia
- A Chance for Change at A Storyfull Life
- Did Tolkien Waste His Life? on the importance of fantasy/fairy stories
- What Does It Mean to Have ‘Read’ a Book?: Have you ever lied and said you finished a book when you hadn't? Here's why ~ looks interesting so sharing it here so I can read it later
- 5 Great Places to Donate Your Old Books ~ I'd have to add your local used book and thrift stores, your public library (for the Friends of the Library $3 per bagful of books sales), etc. Since we've been on a very tight budget the last 8 years, those are the main places we buy books anymore, along with Amazon Kindle sales.
- Speaking of Kindle sales, A History of Christianity: an Introductory Survey is on sale for $2.99 today (regularly $19.99). I'm thinking about buying it to read for the VT Reading Challenge since our library doesn't have much of a selection in that category. Going by the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, it sounds like a pretty good overview of Church history.
- 11 Great World War II Novels Coming in 2017 ~ some of these sound good
Miscellaneous ♦ Frugal living
- Vintage Recipe: Grandmother’s Date Bread Recipe ~ sounds like an interesting Depression/WWII era recipe
- Our favorite homemade Christmas gift was a cheese ball made using this recipe (we've made it several times since Christmas) and one of the ingredients is dried beef. I don't think I've ever bought it before but the smell brought back a childhood memory of a frugal meal my mom sometimes made - Chipped Beef on Toast. So I started Googling and found this recipe. I hope it tastes as good as my mom's. Although I had to shop around for the dried beef because some of the markets wanted a ridiculous price for one jar, which would mean it wouldn't exactly be a frugal meal anymore.
